Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy in all aspects and do work to your full potential. But there is a common misconception about self-care; it does not mean being selfish or self-indulged. You can do everything you want and need to complete in a day.
Indeed, Holistic Well-being is what the world is talking about right now. But, understand, Self-Care is essential.

What is Self Care?
The definition of self-care can change from person to person. It does not stay constant throughout, and it doesn’t have to.
Making sure to take care of yourself is essential since it makes you work at your full potential to deal with situations better. Taking care of yourself regularly leads to many healthy and productive benefits, including better quality of life by reducing Stress, improving your immune system, and boosting your self-esteem.
Why Self-Care Important for Wellbeing
Many people usually take a health-oriented approach while defining self-care.
A study published by BMC palliative care has defined self-care as, “The self-initiated behavior that people choose to incorporate to promote good health and general wellbeing.”
The authors said that it is not only about being healthy but also making sure to include coping strategies to deal with stressors. As self-care has become more mainstream, the definitions have become more relatable to the public, and they tend to focus more on their needs and ensure they are being fulfilled.
Marni Amsellem, a licensed psychologist, says, “Self-care is anything you do for yourself that makes you feel nourished. That can be relaxing or calming, intellectual or spiritual, physical or practical, or something you need to get done. “
Self-care is mostly checking with yourself, asking yourself how you’re doing and what your body needs. Self-care does not mean the same for everyone; one can do it to make themselves, keep themselves fit, or even as a coping mechanism. Different people adopt different practices and routines for self-care.
Types of self-care
As mentioned earlier, self-care is personal to everyone, and they can have it their way in any form. Self Care is anything that floats your boat and makes you feel better.
1. Emotional self-care
It can be as basic as taking a bubble bath, going out with a friend to catch, or even just treating yourself to food to boost your mood. We can consider any mood boosters as taking care of yourself emotionally.
2. Physical self-care
Any physical activity that gives you satisfaction could be giving yourself a break and sleeping for a few extra hours or an exercise routine you have always wanted to try.
3. Spiritual self-care
It could be anything that you connect with on a spiritual level. It could be going out in nature or keeping a journal about the times you feel good. Many people have their own religious beliefs, and they find comfort in that making time to perform related activities gives you inner peace.
