Did you know that Google pays around Rs 2 lakhs per month to ethical hackers? Even an average ethical hacker earns Rs 51,000 per month. Cyber Security is at an all-time high. McAfee Software (an Anti-Virus Software company) has a net income of US $280 million. Even Shivam Vasisht, an Ethical Hacker, earns around US $125,000 a year just for hacking into servers and finding bugs.

Cyber Security runs on the idea of protecting your online presence. A compromised site or network can steal and know all your data. Cyber security software warns you about fishy sites that you might not want to enter. It will check the site before you enter and assure you whether the online site is safe or not.

Even banking systems sometimes get compromised without the proper security software to protect your data. As we are reaching the end of this year, we noticed that almost 15 million data breaches happened worldwide. We further see that the attack of cybercrime can cost the world nearly US $ 10.5 trillion by 2025. You can’t take these figures lightly.

Types of Hackers

There are three Types of Hackers:

Whitehat Hacker

These hackers are popularly known as ethical hackers. They work for various Governments and Industries. Whitehat Hackers are security experts that perform security assessments. The proactive work they do helps to improve an organization’s security with prior approval from the organization or owner of the IT asset. Penetration testing, Broken authentication, Sensitive data exposure, etc., but in India, this comes under Cyber Security, but ethical hacking is one step ahead.

Blackhat Hacker

Black hat Hacker usually hacks systems for Illegal Purposes. It mainly involves Cyber Attacks, Data Britch, and Data Smuggling.

Greyhat Hacker

Greyhat hackers usually hack systems, but they don’t have any malicious intent and may sometime violate the law or ethical standards.

There are various Categories of Cyber securities:

Cybercrime

Cybercrime is using online information for personal gain by hacking for financial gain. Examples of such are Banking, Cybercrimes, Phishing, etc. When you enter your financial details, they extract that information and steal your money. These are done by hacking into your network and monitoring your online activity on various shopping sites.

Cyber Attack

Cyber Attack is when your online data and personal information about the various sites you visit are extracted and used to blackmail you or spread false news. They will post your personal information online for political gains or such.

Identity theft is one such example of a cyber attack. Account hacking is another form of this kind of cyber breach.

Cyber Terrorism

Cyber Terrorism is hacking into the system to cause chaos or disruption. For example, hacking the Indian Government site by a few Pakistani Hackers is an example of Cyber Terrorism.

Malware

Malware is software created by hackers to gain information in the system. Such software usually gets into your system while downloading files from fishy websites or email links. The hackers then use this software to gain information in the system (laptop or pc or phones or tablets). Using this, they can monitor all your activity and use them as they wish.

Some kinds of malware are Viruses that will disturb clean files and corrupt them. Often disguised as proper software, Trojans will corrupt or steal data. Spyware monitors your data and sends it all to the hacker. And Ransomware will hang all your system and stop it from working until you pay a ransom to the hacker to remove the malware.

Phishing

Many financial cyber crimes usually take place via Phishing. Phishing is tricking the user into giving up sensitive information to the hacker through email links. The hackers disguise themselves as official bank SMS or email IDs and ask for users’ sensitive data. Today Banks everywhere have put up posters for the users to be aware that the bank will not ask for any OTPs or personal information through emails or SMS.

India ranks 50 on National Cyber Security Index, with the Cyber Security Index at 59.74 and Cyber Development Index at 40.02, while the US ranks 42 with a Security Index of 64.9 and the Cyber Development Index at 81.44.

India has launched an 82 Crores worth centre to tackle cyber security issues.
