Priyanka Chopra’s Success Story

Priyanka Chopra is a stalwart example of an Indian Actor on the international stage, and we’re incredibly proud of it. Now, as they say,

"

Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.

Winston Churchill.

Dream big, Start Small

Priyanka Chopra didn’t have it that easy. She has always been the ambassador for all young girls to go and achieve their dreams no matter where they belong because education is powerful.

"

When I think about being the woman I want to be, I just want to be the best version of myself. And I use every opportunity that comes my way in that direction.”

Priyanka Chopra.

Priyanka Chopra was born in 1982, on 18th July, in Jamshedpur to Ashok and Madhu Chopra. Her family had a more educationally bright background instead of a filmy background that would allow her to enter the Acting world easily. But she was always ambitious and always dreamed big.

Noting her desire to make it big in an industry that allows women based on their physical beauty, Madhu Chopra signed her up for Miss India. She knew that Priyanka didn’t see herself as this traditionally beautiful girl who could make others think she looked beautiful. Hence, to enhance her confidence, her mother signed her name up for the competition when she was only 18.

In 2000, she won second place in the Miss India Pageant and later became Miss World 2000, giving her the desired amount of confidence where she believed that all she had to do was show her best version of herself.

Her debut film was in Tamil Movies with Thamizhan in 2002, and her Bollywood career started in 2003 with the movie The Hero. Although she acted in 6 movies before 2004, her big break was in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi in 2004. That gave her recognition among people. She worked on several films in later years. She worked so hard that she had at least one movie coming out every year.

From Bollywood to Hollywood

"

“I’ve also had people who wanted to jeopardize my career. Making sure I wasn’t cast in films or taken out of them. But I’m not the kind of person who harps on it. I will cry it out for a night or the other. But I don’t sit in shit. You sit in it and start smelling it, unaware of its smell. So you become dark and negative. So, you have to shut off the noise. Many people will try to pull you down. But don’t focus on that. Focus on the person who believes in you.”

Priyanka started her international career in 2010 through music. She began in 2010 with music to be seen on the global platform and slowly pivoted into acting—ten years of consistent efforts and asking people for auditions. Finally, It was in 2020 that she got her first lead role.

While she had an edge with the Miss World portfolio in India, it wasn’t easy in the United States. She had to try and ask various directors if they had openings constantly. Sometimes people would say she left Bollywood to do minor roles in Hollywood, but she took it in stride, showing that she is just like any other actor.

Life is not a Straight Line.

Priyanka Chopra solely achieved her goals because of her grit and determination. There were days when she felt exhausted. But it was Priyanka’s grit and determination that proved if your goal entirely drives you with a constant effort toward what you are passionate about, then you need to stop worrying about what is not happening to you and focus on what you can do to make things move where you wish to proceed. The idea is to keep moving.

Priyanka struggled to cope after her father passed away in 2013 from Cancer. It was that period when she felt like she had lost everything. But her mom kept pushing her forward to achieve her goals because that would make him proud of her.

And Priyanka Chopra in one of her interview, quotes further,

"

When you lose someone that is important to you, you have to keep them in a part of your heart as a constant. So, you don’t grieve for them anymore. Then you remember the good things. Like I remember my dad’s laugh. I remember it every time I win an award.

Spirituality is Part of Success

Priyanka and her relationship with spirituality also developed during that time. At first, she was very angry with God. Later, it changed when she learned how to cope.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she said,

"

I think around the death of my dad. I was very angry. I was very angry. My relationship with God changed a little bit. But then at the same time, I feel like God helped me find salvation and come out of it too. But at that time, it was tested.

I grew up in a Hindu family. I was aware of that. Spirituality is such a large part of India that you can’t ignore it. I am a Hindu. I pray. I have a temple at my home, and I do it as often as I can. But true to me, I am a believer that a higher power does exist and I like to have faith in that”

Final Thoughts

Ambition is a word associated with women negatively. People say she’s too ambitious. Why is that a bad thing?

Ambitions are essential in life. But it is also important to remember that life is more challenging than it looks. Priyanka’s life on screen seemed extraordinarily smooth and easy. Still, just like her role in the movie Fashion, every person you see as a star has struggles.

Priyanka’s life seemingly started as usual, as every one of us did. Still, through her hard work, determination, and support from her family, she became one of the world’s most celebrated actors. She has even won an Emmy Award, five Filmfare awards, and two National Film Awards.
