India being a diverse nation, has a strong cultural value system that is deep rooted since time immemorial! It is not a coincidence that a country like India, having a modern outlook, yet upholding its cultural values has a low divorce rate. According to the UN record global divorce rate, in India divorce rate is less than 1 percent. But the question is what leads to divorce?  They say, “Infidelity, incompatibility, drug & alcohol addiction and domestic abuse are some of the main reasons. ”

Well, considering the demographics of India, I am sure that the above-mentioned reasons might not be the actual reasons. So, I tried to get some views of all my married acquaintances, friends, relatives on the divorce rate in India.

1. Log Kya Kahenge?

Instead of thinking ‘log kya kahenge,’ people should instead start making some rational decisions.

A decision – to stop entertaining our society. A decision to prioritize the happiness of our beloved people. And a decision to stand for ourselves.

People will talk for days, months, years, and then, they will lose their train of thought after a point.

2. Some Space or No Space to Raise your Voice against Harassment

At times, some men/women are so severely harassed mentally and physically in a bad marriage that there is zero space and little or absolutely no freedom to raise your voice. They are highly vulnerable and are suppressed easily.

Some men/women are so severely harassed mentally and physically in a bad marriage that there is zero space and little or absolutely no freedom to raise their voices. Thus, it makes them highly vulnerable in a bad marriage.

3. Depressing Sex Ratio

Do you know, according to StatisticsTimes.com, the sex ratio of the total population in India is 108.18 males per 100 females. Just imagine! Does it anyway give any space for any man to even go for a second option?

It is in recent times when India has 1,020 females per 1,000 males, according to the latest round of National Family Health Survey (NFHS 2019-21).

8 Reasons Why India Has The Lowest Divorce Rate In The World

4. Girls! You can be a Feminist, but don't be a Feminazi

Men are to some extent thankful that there are fewer feminists in India or else everybody in the name of equality would have rushed to get a divorce. And mind you! These guys here are neither an old-school product nor a chauvinist, nor somebody with a patriarchal mindset.

5. Less working women

According to World Bank, at 21%, India has one of the lowest female participations globally, and the worst part is that there are very few countries behind India.

Financial Independence is important because it gives you the liberty to live life on your terms and helps you live a dignified life.

Without financial independence, it becomes difficult for any women to take such bold steps, despite being offered alimony which is still very low in India.

6. Spill the Tea

A broken marriage leaves an unseen scar. So, it is always advisable to give the family some space and some time.

7. Time Can’t Always Heal Everything

It is said that time heals everything. But in reality, the scars left by a bad marriage are too deep to be healed by the passage of time.

8. The Big Fat Indian Wedding

ince people in India spend too much on lavish weddings, it is difficult for families and individuals to take tough calls like Divorce.

The point is,

“it’s okay! If we realize latter that it was a bad decision,

it’s okay! If you wish to fly above all and take divorce,

 It’s okay! If one prioritizes one’s Professional Life over Personal life;

But it’s not okay! If you continuously be the victim and don’t walk out of a bad marriage.”
